Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and moderate rains in other parts of the country in 24 hours from 9am on Thursday.

“Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at most places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions and at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions,” said a Met office bulletin.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay, it said.

The axis of monsoon troughs runs through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.

One of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay.

Due to active monsoon, steep pressure gradient lies over North Bay and under its influence gusty/squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, it said.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. three (R) three.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, reports UNB.
