Turtles recovered in Kalapara

Patuakhali: 62 turtles were rescued from a passenger bus at Kalapara in Patuakhali. At around 8 pm on Thursday night, while the turtles were being taken to the Kuakata-Dhaka-bound dolphin bus from Pakhimara market of the upazila, the Coast Guard members rescued two sacks of turtles.

However, no one was found who was the hunter of the turtles or who kept them in the bus. Tortoises have a yellow circle on their upper body.

Bayezid Munshi, a member of Animal Lovers Kalapara branch, said these turtles are Sundi species turtles.

They were being taken for sale in Jessore area. Later they were handed over to Mahipur Forest Department.

In the presence of Mahipur Forest Department and Animal Lovers members, the turtles were released on Friday afternoon in the forest under Mahipur range.

Bangladesh Coast Guard Nizampur Contingent Commander Md. Selim said, based on secret information, the turtles were rescued from the passenger bus named Dolphin. Later the turtles were handed over to Mahipur Forest Department. - Gofran Biswas Palash
