National leaders all sections of journalists pay respects

The Namaj-e-Zanaja of Ruhum Amin Gazi, President, Federal Union of Journalists was held at the National Press Club auditorium premises in the midst of incessant rainfall on Wwednesday after the Zohr prayer.

His body was taken to his ancestral home in Chandpur where he was laid to eternal rest. 

National leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of the BNP, other BNP leaders, Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and secretary general Golam Parwar, Shammilita Peshajibi convener and member of BNP standing committee Dr. Zahid Hossain, Press Club president poet Hasan Hafiz, secretary Ayun Bhuiyan, DUJ leaders Shahidul Islam and Khorshed Alam, BFUJ and DUJ other faction leaders Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Sohel Haider Chowdhury, among others were present and paid their tributes to Ruhul Amin Gazi. 

Information Adviser Nahid Islam was present and spoke paying tributes to the union leader whose unionisnism spanned almost 50 years.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President and noted journalist Ruhul Amin Gazi.

In a condolence message, he said, "Ruhul Amin Gazi played a courageous and praiseworthy role in ensuring freedom of expression".

He also said senior journalist Gazi, who used to believe in independent journalism, worked relentlessly with the great principle of objective journalism.

His fellow journalists will forever follow this spirit with respect, he hoped.

Tarique Rahman said his bold speech in favor of the freedom of speech of the people despite suffering prison and oppression was appreciated by the countrymen.

Despite facing anger from the fascist regime repeatedly, Gazi always played a leading role for democracy, he said.

Even in the face of the threat of undemocratic forces in his career, he was steadfast in fulfilling his duties, said the BNP acting chairman.

Noting that his contribution to the arena of journalism is undoubtedly undeniable, he also said his death created a deep wound in the hearts of democracy-loving people.

"Gazi's death made a vacuum which will not be fulfilled easily," he added.

Tarique Rahman prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul as well. 

Gazi passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.

Journalists in Chittagong offered a gayebana zanaja for Ruhul Amin Gazi in the on Wednesday afternoon.

The leaders of Bangladesh Newspapers Employees Federation (BNEF) and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers (BFUNPW) today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) president Ruhul Amin Gazi.

In a joint condolence message, they said Gazi was a veteran journalist leader. His demise has created an irreparable loss in the journalism arena, they said.

They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, said a press release.

The leaders also joined the namaz-e-janaza of Gazi held at the National Press Club.
