A passenger bus caught fire after a collision with a train in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, leaving at least eight people dead and 25 others injured, authorities said on Saturday (May 16).

According to local police and rescue officials, cited by Reuters, the bus burst into flames following the impact, and the fire quickly spread to several nearby vehicles.

The accident also damaged a train, the passenger bus, and several private cars and motorcycles, officials said.

Firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and worked to bring the blaze under control. Injured passengers were pulled from the wreckage while firefighters used water hoses to extinguish the flames.

Authorities said the fire has since been brought under control, but search and rescue operations are continuing as officials look for possible additional victims.

The cause of the collision and subsequent fire has not yet been determined. Thai authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
