Iran’s IRNA news agency reports that the country’s Finance Minister Ali Madanizadeh has told China’s ambassador to Iran, Cong Peiwu, that Iran is determined to strengthen comprehensive ties with China.

Referring to China’s position in the global economy, Madanizadeh highlighted the two countries’ potential for cooperation in industrial investment, new technologies, clean energy, the digital economy, logistics and industrial projects, IRNA said.

On Tuesday, China-based firms and business leaders were sanctioned by the US Treasury for procuring weapons and parts for Iran’s military.

However, China remains one of Iran’s largest trading partners, and the Trump administration has faced scrutiny over how forcefully it would confront Beijing over its participation in Iran’s economy.

Madanizadeh thanked China for its support for Iran’s sovereignty and its humanitarian assistance during the recent war, and highlighted the importance of cooperation through BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and financial institutions, reports AL Jazeera.

He said that the two countries are moving towards a new chapter of strategic partnership and implementation of the 25-year comprehensive cooperation plan, IRNA added.
