Officials confirmed Thursday that there are likely no survivors from the crash between a passenger jet and a US Army helicopter in Washington. Recovery teams have pulled 28 bodies from the river where both aircraft went down.

"We don't believe there are any survivors at this point," Washington Fire Chief John Donnelly stated during a news conference at Reagan National Airport, just outside the U.S. capital. "We are transitioning from a rescue operation to a recovery operation."

Donnelly reported that 27 bodies were recovered from the plane, while one body was recovered from the helicopter.
