At least eight people were killed and 45 others injured when a speeding container truck rammed into a tractor trolley carrying more than 60 pilgrims in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr shortly after midnight on Sunday.
The accident occurred on National Highway 34 near the Aligarh border. Police said the impact caused the overloaded tractor to overturn, leaving a large number of passengers trapped and injured.
Bulandshahr police chief Dinesh Kumar Singh confirmed the fatalities and said 45 others were receiving treatment. “Three of the injured are in critical condition and on ventilator support, while the rest are stable,” he added.
The tractor has been cleared from the highway and the truck involved in the crash is in police custody.
