At least 10 people were killed and 32 others injured on Tuesday when a bomb exploded on a busy street near the headquarters of a regional paramilitary force in Balochistan’s capital, Quetta.

Four terrorists were killed when security forces responded swiftly, the provincial government confirmed on social media.

Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar said the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital and Trauma Centre in Quetta.

Quetta’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Baloch, explained that the explosion occurred as an explosive-laden vehicle turned near the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters.

Following the blast, the Balochistan Health Department declared an emergency in hospitals across the city. Health Secretary Mujeebur Rehman said all consultants, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and paramedical staff were instructed to remain on duty.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “terrorist act.” He praised the swift action of security forces, which eliminated four terrorists, and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the incident, stating that the suicide attack in Quetta was carried out by Fitna-al-Khawarij, a term the state uses for terrorists linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), whom he described as “misguided extremists acting on India’s agenda.”

The Chief Minister added that operations against any remaining attackers are ongoing. He vowed that such acts of terror will not weaken the nation’s resolve and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Balochistan peaceful and secure.
