The crash occurred after midnight local time on the highway to Gulu, a major city in northern Uganda. Four vehicles, including two buses, were involved in the collision. Police said the accident happened when the two buses, traveling in opposite directions, attempted to overtake other vehicles and collided head-on.
“In the process, both buses met head-on during the overtaking maneuvers,” the police statement said.
Road accidents are common in Uganda, where narrow highways and reckless driving often contribute to fatalities. Authorities usually attribute such crashes to speeding and dangerous overtaking, reports UNB.
Police urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially avoiding risky overtaking, which remains one of the leading causes of road accidents in the country.
