Five German Climbers Killed in Avalanche in Italian Alps

Five German climbers, including a 17-year-old girl, were killed in an avalanche in Italy’s Dolomite Mountains on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Two groups of climbers were caught in the snow torrent near the Swiss border in South Tyrol.

“The first group of three was completely buried under the snow,” Italy’s alpine rescue services said on Sunday, confirming all three had died.

Two climbers from a second team of four survived after seeking shelter.

The bodies of a father and his 17-year-old daughter from the second team were recovered on Sunday morning.

Search operations had been delayed due to poor weather conditions.

Rescue services confirmed that the two climbers had been dragged to the lower part of the channel where the avalanche occurred.
