Car Explosion Near Delhi’s Red Fort Kills 8, Injures Several
At least eight people were killed and several others injured when a powerful explosion tore through a car parked near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, setting multiple vehicles on fire.
The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila Metro Station, was so intense that it shattered windows of cars parked meters away and was heard across nearby buildings.
Delhi Fire Services confirmed that the explosion triggered fires in three to four vehicles. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the scene as police cordoned off the area and issued a high alert across the city.
Entry and exit at Gate Nos. 1 and 4 of Lal Qila have been restricted, but Delhi Metro services continue to operate normally. Authorities in Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh have also been placed on high alert following the blast.
Eyewitnesses described the explosion as deafening. A local shopkeeper said, “I fell three times due to the blast. It felt as if we were all going to die.” Another witness recounted seeing body parts scattered on the road and damaged cars nearby.
An auto driver, injured in the blast, said, “The car in front of me was about two feet away. I don’t know whether it contained a bomb, but it exploded. It was a Swift Dzire.”
The explosion coincides with a major anti-terror operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies, which uncovered a terror module linked to Jaish‑e‑Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat‑ul‑Hind across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Eight suspects, including three doctors, were arrested in Faridabad, and 360 kilograms of explosives and weapons were seized from a house in Dhauj village.
