2 construction workers electrocuted in city


Dhaka – Two workers were electrocuted while working at an under-construction building in the city’s Dilkhusa area on Sunday.The victims were identified as Swapan, 18, a construction worker and son of Amirul of Gaibandha, and Abdul Halim, 30, a rickshaw-van puller and son of Fazlu Miah of Mithapukur in Rangpur.Quoting witnesses, police said Halim was unloading steel ‘angles’ from his van and helping construction worker Swapan who was working on the 3rd floor of the building to pull up the ‘angles’.At one stage, one of the steel ‘angles’ came in contact with a live wire of a power supply line near the building around 3:15 pm, electrocuting the duo who were at two opposite poles of the ‘angle’.Officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station Omar Faruk said as police reached the spot around 3:30pm, they found Swapan lying on the 3rd floor of the building while Halim who was on the ground while being electrocuted, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).Police whisked off Swapan to the DMCH where doctors declared him as well as Halim dead. The two bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy. (UNB)
