2 Indian nationals among 7 held at Benapole


Dhaka-Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested five Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian nationals while entering into the country illegally from India through Sadipur border point here on Tuesday.The arrestees were identified as Harilal Sarkar, 40, son of Lalbagh Sarkar, his son Palash Sarkar, 17 of Chabbish Pargana district in India, Zahidul Islam, 24, son of Azhar Ali, Azhar’s wife Ruma Begum, 20, Ramesa Begum, 40, wife of Nur Ali, Rahima Khatun, 19 and Sharifa, 22.All of the Bangladeshis hailed from different parts of Sirajganj and Gopalganj districts.Tipped off, a team of BGB-49 conducted a drive in the area and arrested them while entering into the country without valid documents, said Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Haq, commanding officer of BGB-49.The Bangladeshis went to India in search of good jobs five years ago, he said.None was arrested in this connection as the traffickers managed to flee sensing the presence of the border guards.They were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station and a case was filed in this connection.UNB news agency
