Priests of six temples and Hindu community leaders in Pirojpur, Rangpur and Patuakhali districts have received death threats by unknown elements during the previous 24 hours, according to correspondents and police sources in the district concerned.The threats follow the recent attacks on several activists and religious minorities, including Hindus and deadly attack in Gulshan and Solakia leaving many people killed including 17 foreigners.
Sources said similar letters were dropped inside the four temples in Sadar Thana of Pirojpur district threati9ng the persist and community leaders. Besides, priests in two temples on in Rangpur and another in Patiauakhali were also given threats through letters.
Police said they have visited the temples and homes of the leaders and enhanced their security.
Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur Md Walid Hossain confirmed that four letters were dropped in four temples under Sadar Thana of the district making threats to priests, Hindu community leaders and service holders.
He said they have already visited the temples and spoken to the priests and Hindu community leaders and assured them to take necessary security measures for them.
“We are carrying out investigation considering all aspects along with special drive,” he said.
The temples which received the threats are: Central Kalibari Mondir, Palpara Sarbojonin Shree Shree Gobindo Mondir, Shree Shree Ramkrishna Mission and another temple at Sikder Mollick Union.
But no general dairy was filed till filing of the report at 8:00pm.
The unanimous letter said the target killing mission is now is staying in Pirojpour…The killing mission will accomplish the task with the help of two leaders of the ruling Awami League and BNP.
Meanwhile, another letter in a yellow envelop was dripped in Adarshapara Anandamoyee Seba Ashram in Rangour giving threat to its priest Bijoy Chakrawarborty and demanding Tk 20,000.
Bijoy Chakrawarborty told media that he came to now about the letter from Jhornamoni, a temple worker and he informed the police administration about the incident.
In another development, a youth gave death threat to priest of Biswa Kallayan Geeta Ashram at Baufol porasabha.
Sources said a youth with his faced covered went to the Ashram at about 6:30am and threatened the priest directly.
Police said they after the incident police were deployed around the Ashram to ensure safety and security of the priest.
Earlier on June 15 the head priest and others at the Ramakrishna Mission in Bangladesh have received death threats by Islamist militant who claimed to be supporters of the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS.
