Eighteen Jamaat-Shibir leaders put under remand


The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Tuesday placed 18 leaders and activists of Jamat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir on a one-day remand to interrogate them in connection with their involvement in a plot against the government.

Earlier, Mirpur Model Police Station police produced them to the CMM Court with a 10-day remand each, and Magistrate Md Erfan Ullah granted one day’s remand each.

The Magistrate rejected the bail petitions submitted on behalf of the accused. Besides, he sent four women activists to jail rejecting the remand pleas and also their bail petitions. They are Fatema Jahura, Mostari Jahan, Ferdous Ara and Zakia Sultana.

Advocate Mohammad Sanaullah Mia and his associate lawyers moved bail petitions on behalf of the accused.

The police held the leaders and activists from Mirpur National High School and College Mirpur Section 2 at about 7.20 pm on Monday.

They were allegedly involved in a secret meeting to make plot against the government. – Court Correspondent
