Father burns hands of two children over theft


Two minor children sustained burn injuries as their father set fire to their hands over stealing Tk10 at Dolakandi village in Sadar upazila on Thursday.The victims were identified as Sabrin Sultana, 7, a class II student of Ramapur Dakhil Madrasha, and Nusrat Tabassum, 5, a class I student of a local kindergarten—both daughters of Nur Mohammad of the village.The incident came to light on Friday when the two children were admitted to Laxmipur Modern Hospital with their condition critical.
Quoting the mother of the victims, police said Sabrina and Nusrat had demanded Tk10 from their father for purchasing some foods on Thursday.As their father refused to give it, they stole the money from their father on the day.When Nur Mohammad charged them, they admitted that they took the money without consent of their father.Later Nur Mohammad put the left hands of their daughters on a gas stove, leaving them seriously injured.They were rushed to a local hospital from where they were shifted to Laxmipur Modern Hospital on Friday afternoon.On information, police rushed in and arrested Nur Mohammad in this connection.Gias Uddin Mia, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said preparation for filling a case against him under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act was underway.The children will be in police custody until their recovery, said OC. -UNB , Laxmipur
