Flood situation improves in Jamalpur



The overall flood situations in the district improved significantly as water level in the river Jamuna dropped further.Water Development Board sources said during the last 24 hours Jamuna dropped 19 cm and was flowing 42 cm below the red mark at Bahadurabad Ghat point at 12 noon today.Civil surgeon office said during the last 24 hours 178 people became sick from various diseases including diarrhoea, skin and eye diseases in the flood affected areas.Civil surgeon Dr Moshaerul Islam said, “We have enough stock of medicine to face any eventualities.”
District primary education officer M Abdul Alim said after receding flood waters we resumed classes in 165 primary schools today out of 310. Within three days rest of the closed schools will be re-opened, he also said.Department of Agricultural Extension said 18,645 hectares of croplands were submerged by the flood water.In the two-phase flood, 2 lakh 80 thousand people in 53 unions out of 68 unions in the district were affected, District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said. -BSS, Jamalpur
