Gas reserve now 14.16 TCF – says energy state minister

The country’s current gas reserve as of June 2015 is 14.16 TCF, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid informed Parliament on Sunday.
Hamid said this replying to a starred tabled question from treasury bench member AFM Bahauddin Nasim (Madaripur-3).
The junior minister said the initial probable production of gas was 27.12 BCF out of which some 12.96 BCF was extracted till May, 2015.
As of May, 2015, he said, some 815.98 BCF gas was extracted in the current fiscal year and if this rate of extraction remains unchanged, it would be possible to use the gas for about 16 years till 2031.
Hamid also told the House that now it is not possible to supply gas according to the demand while the demand for gas would enhance in the future. If the gas reserve comes down for that, it will not be possible to keep the production at constant rate.
The production capacity of the existing fields will continue to reduce with the reduction of gas pressure with the passage of time, according to the state minister.
Under the circumstances, it will be possible to use this gas for more than 16 years at a limited rate. – UNB
