Govt’s uneasiness hints at fresh elections soon: Moudud

A senior BNP leader believes that the government would hold a fresh election in the country soon.
“The government is at unease that indicates that there will be an election in the country very soon,” said BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed while talking to reporters after paying rich tribute at the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
Earlier, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her senior party colleagues placed wreath at the mazar of Ziaur Rahman to mark the 37th founding anniversary of the party.
Barrister Moudud said late President Zia had established multiparty democracy in the country in place of one-party system of government.“The democracy has now been lost in the country. It has become the main challenge of the BNP to restore the democracy and it will return,” he said.
The BNP leader expressed his optimism that Khaleda Zia would return to power again with peoples mandate through a fair election.
“Police and administration will be allowed to function independently if BNP returns to power,” he added.
Hundreds of party leaders and activists thronged at the premises of Zia’s mazar from the morning defying the incessant rains.
The former premier reached there at 11:30am.
