‘Motorcycle lifter’ injured in Satkhira ‘gunfight’


An alleged motorcycle lifter was injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Purbo Kuliya village in Debhata upazila early Sunday.The injured was identified as Alamgir Hossain, son of Abdul Majid Sarder, a resident of Ujirpur village of the upazila.Being tipped off that a gang of criminals was preparing to commit mugging in the area by placing logs, a team of police led by Sub-inspector Jakaria conducted a drive in the area around 3:15am, said Kamal Hossain, sub-inspector of Sadar police station.The muggers from the motorcycle opened fire and blasted crude bombs towards police as they challenged them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Alamgir injured.
Later, police rescued the injured while his other associates managed to flee the scene.Two police members were also injured in the incident.The injured were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.Police also recovered one machete, two iron rods and a motorcycle from the scene. -UNB, Satkhira
