Over 3.50 lakh children to be fed vitamin ‘A’ in Gaibandha


A total of 3,50,566 children would be fed blue and red color vitamin A capsule in all the seven upazilas of the district on April 25 to reduce the risk of child mortality.Of them, some 35,922 babies aged 6-11 months will be fed blue color vitamin A capsule while 3, 14,643 babies aged 12-59 months will be administered red color vitamin a capsule on the day.A total of 8,552 health and family planning personnel including 7,742 volunteers will be engaged in 2,138 centers throughout the district to make the campaign successful.This was disclosed in an orientation meeting organized by health department at the conference room of civil surgeon (CS) here on Wednesday noon with CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury in the chair.The function was also addressed, among others, by district immunization officer of World Health Organization Dr. Lutfar Rahman and nutrition officer of National Nutrition Institute M. Kamruzzaman.CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury in his speech said special initiatives have been taken to bring all the children of char and remote areas of the district under this programme in cooperation with some NGOs including BRAC and Friendship.The CS also sought whole hearted cooperation of all and urged the journalists to create much awareness among the people about the campaign through publishing positive reports in their respective media to succeed the campaign. -BSS, Gaibandha
