RU relaxes CGPA condition on teacher recruitment

Rajshahi – The Rajshahi University authority has decided to relax the CGAP condition on teacher recruitment. The unbinding on CGPA condition has been done for the second time in last two years. Besides, they also withdrew the accusation of sexual harassment against Political Science Dept teacher Prof Dr Rohul Amin brought by his colleague.The decision has been taken in 475th syndicate meeting, highest decision-making organ of the university held on Tuesday night with its vice chancellor Professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan in the chair.
Syndicate member Prof Dr K B M Mahbobur Rahman confirmed the matter yesterday. According to university rules, any candidate seeking to be recruited to the lecturer post has to secure CGPA (Commutative Grade Point Average) minimum 3.50 out of 4.00 in both honours and master’s course in the all faculties of the university. Even they have to secure GPA 4.50 out of 5.00 at the SSC and HSC examinations respectively.
But in the syndicate meeting, 0.50 CGPA was curtailed for Art Faculty, Fine Arts Faculty, Institute of Bangladesh Studies, and 0.25 CGPA for Social Science Faculty, Business Studies Faculty and Law Faculty. But they did not change the decision for Science Faculty, Agriculture Faculty, Life and Earth Faculty and Engineering Faculty. Candidates have to secure GPA 4 out of 5 both SSC and HSC examinations.
On the other hand, authority withdrew the accusation on sexual harassment as they did not get proof of allegation of sexua lharassment against Political Science Dept professor and also general secretary of RU Teachers Association Dr Rohul Amin. The decision has been taken on the basis of investigation report, Head of the prove body and also Dean of the Science Faculty Prof Dr Akthar Faruk submitted the investigation report.
They also issued a notice to the Prof Most Rukshana Pervin why university authority would not take punitive action for false sexual allegation against her colleague. A decision also has been taken that university vice chancellor would request to Political Science dept chairman Prof Dr Nasima Zaman to resign from her post. Another syndicate member Prof Dr KBM Mahbobur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Prof Nasima said, if university authority requests her, she would resign from her post though she was not with the incident. She was upset by no punishment against crime.
Prof. Ruksana Perveen, a teacher of the dept filled sexual allegation with the vice-chancellor’s office on July 31 against her M. Phil program supervisor, Prof. Rohul Amin. Rukshana Parveen said in her written allegation that she had been mentally and sexually harassed several times by her supervisor during her M. Phil program classes.
Marking the incident the university authorities formed a three-member probe committee on August 9, headed by the dean of the Science Faculty, Prof Akthar Faruk. The other members were Prof. Tajul Islam, provost of Mohar Bux Hall and Prof. Abdul Latif, head of the medical psychology department. – RU Correspondent
