A woman and her three-year-old son were killed while the child's father was injured after a pickup van hit their motorcycle in Dinajpur's Birganj upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Fahima Akter, 28, wife of Nazmul Hossain of Malgram village in Kaharole upazila, and their three-year-old son, Nas Abdullah.

The accident occurred around 5:30 am at the Panchpir intersection in Kabirajhat on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway when the family was travelling to a homeopathic physician in Goreya area of Thakurgaon Sadar for treatment of the ailing mother and child.

Officer-in-Charge of Birganj Police Station Saiful Islam said a fish-laden pickup struck the motorcycle from behind, throwing the riders onto the road.

Fahima and her son were run over by the pickup and died on the spot, while Nazmul was thrown clear of the vehicle and survived with injuries, reports UNB.

He was admitted to Birganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment, the OC said.
