Two killed, five hurt in three-vehicle collision in Habiganj

Two people were killed and at least five others injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.


The deceased were identified as Ripon Mia, 27, of Ratanpur village in Madhabpur upazila and Abul Khayer, 50, son of Nasir Uddin of West Madhabpur area.

Police said the accident occurred around 2.00 pm in Bejura area when a Sylhet-bound oil tanker collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound truck. The truck overturned and fell onto a CNG-run auto-rickshaw travelling on the highway.

Abul Khayer, a passenger of the CNG, and Ripon Mia, a helper of the truck, died on the spot.

Injured 5 in the accident were rescued and taken to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex. 

Officer-in-Charge of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station Shubha Ranjan Chakma confirmed the incident, saying the bodies were taken to the police station while the injured were sent to the hospital, reports BSS.

Further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
