34 missing as 11 trawlers capsize in Bay

Eleven fishing trawlers carrying at least 160 fishermen capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata in Patuakhali due to inclement weather.



Eleven fishing trawlers carrying at least 160 fishermen capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata in Patuakhali due to inclement weather.
Of them, 34 fishermen have still remained missing.
The incidents of trawler capsize took place at different points of the Bay from Friday (August 19) noon to 10:00pm.
The missing trawlers are – MB Ma Moni (3), FB Saiful, FB Al Mamun, FB Kulsum, FB Rafik Mizi, FB Nurbanu and FB Mayer Doa. However, four other missing trawlers could not be named immediately.
Md Ansar Uddin Mollah, president of Kuakata-Alipur Fish Trader and Fishing Trawler Owners’ Association and Raju Ahmed Raja, president of Mahipur Fish Trader and Fishing Trawler Owners’ Association, confirmed the matter to risingbd.
Nizampur Coast Guard Contingent Commander Selim Mandal said rescue operation is underway. Besides, higher authority has been informed about the matter.
