A village doctor was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant while trying to protect his crops in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.



A village doctor was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant while trying to protect his crops in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.
The incident took place in Gabrakhali border area of the upazila around 9:45 pm on Tuesday (May 2).
The deceased was identified as Md Edris Mia, 50, son of Taymur Rahman.
Gazirvita UP chairman Md Abdul Mannan confirmed the incident.
He said, some 30-35 wild elephants have been coming down for some time in search of food in the croplands of the Gabrakhali border area.
The wild elephants raided the paddy field in Haluaghat area.
Edris Mia was crushed to death by an elephant when local people tried to chase away the elephants to protect the paddy field.
Confirming the incident, Haluaghat police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinuzzaman Khan said one was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant.
Necessary steps are being taken in this regard, he added.
