An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was killed in a road accident in Mymensingh's Muktagacha upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was Md. Rustam Ali, 42, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Muktagacha Police Station. He was a resident of Kalikachcha village in Sarail upazila, Brahmanbaria district.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Satrasiya in Muktagacha on the Mymensingh-Tangail road, reports UNB.

Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Muktagacha Police Station, said that ASI Rustam Ali was returning to the police station on his motorcycle after performing his duty in the Mantala area of Kumargata union on Saturday afternoon. On the way, at a place called Satrasiya on the Mymensingh-Tangail road, a truck filled with water drums coming from the opposite direction hit his motorcycle, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rescued and taken first to Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Rustam joined Muktagacha Police Station as an ASI on March 16 last year.
