Munshiganj, Feb 17 --At least 20 people were injured in an accident involving five vehicles on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway near Kamarkhola area in Munshiganj on Monday morning, fire service said.

The identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred around 7 am when a large covered van collided with the back of a pickup truck. Shortly afterwards, a passenger bus from Imat Pariban crashed into the van, causing a slowdown. A short distance away, another truck hit a bus from Purbaba Paribahan, leaving at least 20 people injured.

On information, two fire service units rushed to the scene, rescued the injured, and transported them to hospital, according to Munshiganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Shafiqul Islam.

He also said that traffic movement on the Dhaka-bound lane was disrupted, leading to a traffic jam due to the crashes.

Abdul Quader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police, said that the truck involved in the crash fled the scene, and efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining four vehicles. - UNB
