Train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route were disrupted for over an hour on Saturday morning after the engine of a commuter train caught fire near Dhala Station in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh district.

According to Akter Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Railway Police Station, the Dewanganj-bound Dewanganj Commuter train experienced a malfunction when its engine caught fire around 10:30 am, just after crossing Dhala Station. The fire caused a temporary halt in train services on the route.

The incident caused panic among passengers as thick smoke billowed from the engine. Fortunately, railway authorities quickly responded, dousing the flames with water, and preventing further damage. Train operations resumed after approximately one and a half hours of disruption.
