Man, grandson killed as timber-laden van overturns in Sherpur

A man and his grandson were killed when a battery-operated van carrying timber overturned in Rouha union of Sherpur sadar on Saturday noon, police said.


The deceased were identified as Mofazzal Mistri, 65, and his grandson Hossain Mia, 11. They were residents of Halgora village.

According to locals, the accident occurred around at 2:30 pm when the pair were transporting timber to Halgara in a van driven by the grandson Hossain Mia, who lost control near Beltoli Bazar and overturned.

Hossain Mia died on the spot, while Mofazzal Mistri was rushed to Sherpur Sadar Hospital in critical condition and the on-duty doctor declared him dead, reports UNB. 

Md Zubaidul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sherpur Sadar Police Station, said that police were dispatched to the scene.
