Prime Minister’s Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly addressed a press conference organised by Prime Minister’s Press Wing at PMO.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly on Saturday said the government is working to strengthen the flow of information from the grassroots by empowering district information officers and improving public access to government information.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Prime Minister's Press Wing at the Prime Minister's Office to mark the government's first five months in office, Shibly said district information officers are being made more active so journalists and citizens can obtain timely and accurate information on current issues.

"We are strengthening district information offices so journalists at the local level can easily access information on contemporary issues," he said.

Referring to the implementation of the government's 31-point election manifesto and the July National Charter, Shibly said the media plays a crucial role in informing the public about government initiatives and their progress.

He said the current administration has focused on addressing longstanding development challenges identified during the Prime Minister's visits to different parts of the country.

Highlighting healthcare reforms, Shibly said the government has decided to upgrade all 492 upazila health complexes to 101-bed hospitals, expanding on earlier initiatives introduced under previous BNP governments.

He also said the government is working to improve not only people's living standards but also to restore social, family and moral values.

"The Prime Minister is leading by example through actions rather than words," Shibly said, citing recent public awareness initiatives on cleanliness and waste management.

He added that the Prime Minister has sought cooperation from the administration, journalists and citizens to build a prosperous and values-based Bangladesh.

Shibly said the government has moved away from what he described as the previous culture of personality-centred publicity and is instead promoting a work-oriented approach to governance.

He also highlighted wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection as key government priorities and described the FY2026–27 budget as a "people-friendly budget", noting measures aimed at reducing healthcare costs and keeping essential commodities affordable.

Calling on journalists to give greater attention to constructive social issues, Shibly said responsible reporting can contribute to building a more prosperous and value-based society.

Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Dr Mahdi Amin also addressed the press conference, which was attended by senior officials of the Prime Minister's Press Wing.
