Agri Varsity expels 6 students after fellow murder

The Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh, has expelled six students, including three leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), for their suspected involvement in the killing of a student.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the university syndicate on Wednesday, said Registrar Abdul Khaleque. While the three BCL leaders were expelled for good, the others were turned out for varying terms, he said.Saad Ibne Mamtaz died following clashes between two BCL factions on Apr 1. Those banished for life are BCL organising secretary Sujoy Kumar Kundu, BCL activists Rokanozzaman Rokan and Rezaul Karim Reza.
However, final-year students Nazmul Sadat Russel and Dewan Mohammad Murad were expelled for four years, and second-year student Md Antar Chowdhury for two years.
The decision was taken following recommendations by the board of residents and student discipline committee.
The committee had given its view in favour of the expulsions on Tuesday.
For the past eight days, the ordinary students had been demanding the punishment of those involved in Saad’s killing.
The university authorities filed a case on Apr 2, leading to the arrest of two BCL leaders in connection with the murder.
The agitating students have, however, rejected the syndicate committee’s decision, saying they wanted the six students to be expelled for life. – bdnews24.com
