AL-led 14-Party blame failure of admin for Casino, gambling

Dhaka, Sept 26 – Awami League-led 14-party alliance has accused the law enforcing agencies of failing to curb casino business, gambling and other illegal activities in the capital and elsewhere of the country.“It’s a failure of our administration. How such illegal activities are running in the capital at the very nose of the law enforcers,” said AL presidium member and 14-party coordinator Mohammad Nasim on Thursday while speaking to the media after holding a meeting with the leaders of 14-party alliance in the city.
“We have become surprised seeing that some political leaders and activists are involved in casino business and gambling. Their involvement in such illegal activities is not acceptable. We condemned them and will urge the law enforcers to arrest the culprits who are involved in such illegal activities,” he said.
Nasim, also the former health minister, called upon the 14-party leaders and workers to remain alert so that evil forces are not be able to catch fish in the troubled water capitalizing the ongoing anti-graft drive.
It will not be tolerated if wrongdoers destroy government’s all achievements, he said, adding the 14-party alliance extends its support to the anti-graft drive launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said stern actions should be taken against all the people who were involved in corruption or wrong doings as they are worse than BNP-Jamaat elements.
The AL senior leader said the 14-party alliance has taken a programmes on March 18 next year, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabadhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and ‘Mujib Year’.
On the day, Nasim said, a candle-light procession will be brought out from the city’s Manikmia Avenue at about 6 pm.
Speaking at the programme, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) president Hasanul Haque Inu said those who infiltrated into the Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s development train and have been hatching conspiracies against her will have to be rooted out.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president and former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, chairman of Workers Party of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon, Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, former disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and general secretary of AL Dhaka South City unit Shahe Alam Murad, among others, spoke. – Staff Reporter
