Biman Bangladesh Airlines has formed a four-member committee to investigate a series of technical issues that occurred on its flights between 1 July and 13 August, according to a press release issued today (19 August).
The committee has been tasked with reviewing maintenance and operational records, identifying the root causes of the problems, ensuring accountability, and submitting a comprehensive report within 10 working days. The press release also noted that the committee will look into a specific incident involving a malfunctioning toilet flush system on a Dhaka–Abu Dhabi flight.
In response to recent events, Biman has initiated several personnel changes. Two officials have been transferred, one engineer has been reassigned as a punitive measure, and another in Chattogram has been issued a show-cause notice.
To enhance technical readiness, Biman has placed spare aircraft tyres at key international outstations including Jeddah, Dubai, Medina, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, with procurement orders already in process. The tyre burst incident in Jeddah is currently under investigation by the airline's Director of Flight Operations.
Additional measures include the introduction of special night maintenance shifts from 18 August and strengthened oversight by senior engineering personnel.
Biman is also collaborating with Boeing to review its inventory system, update its list of essential spare parts, and introduce recurrent training programs for engineers. To build long-term technical capacity, the airline is also recruiting apprentice mechanics.
The press release emphasized that passenger safety and trust remain the airline’s highest priorities.
The statement was issued by A B M Rowshan Kabir, General Manager (Public Relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
