Yonex-sunrise Bangladesh Sr. Int'l Badminton Series begins

Dhaka, 17 Dec  - Yonex-sunrise Bangladesh Sr. Int'l Badminton Series has begun at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital Tuesday.

Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser, formally inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Football Federation vice president and Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited chairman Naser Shahriar Jahedi was present as special guest.

A total of 140 shuttleres -- 112 of men's and 28 of women's -- from 14 countries are participating in the five-day meet.

The participating countries are India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Vietnam, Uganda, Japan, Sri Lanka, America, England, Singapore, Ukraine and host Bangladesh.  

On the first day, featured some men's singles and doubles events.
On the day's men's singles matches, Abdus Sowad of Bangladesh beat his Indian rival Lokesh Babu 21-13, 21-14, Al Amin Jumar of Bangladesh beat Owangs Ehans of England 21-17, 9-21 and 17-7, Robiul Islam Ripon of Bangladesh defeated his Ugandan rival Keneth Comfort Mayambu 21-16, 16-21 and 21-14, Pauchara Kit Arichaset of Thailand beat Abdur Rahim of Bangladesh 21-14, 21-11, Charan 
Nayek Kelavatu of India beat Sifat Ullah of Bangladesh 17-21, 21-18 and 21-12, Suriya Kiran Reddy Dundi of India beat Solayman Akib of Bangladesh 21-19, 21-14 and in the men's doubles event Barik Al Hanif and Al Fatir Rahan pair of Indonesia defeated Lal Chand and Yeasin Ahmed pair of Bangladesh 21-8 and 21-10.
