The Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) shot and killed a Bangladeshi national, Kamal Hossain, 32, on October 7 in Tripura, India. The news was confirmed by BGB-10 Captain Lt. Colonel Md Iftekhar Hossain.

"We have lodged a strong protest regarding this killing, but we are still uncertain about the circumstances that led him to the border," Lt. Colonel Hossain told The Business Standard. He added that Kamal's body will be returned to Bangladesh after an autopsy.

Local residents in Cumilla Sadar's Paharpur area reported hearing gunfire around 7:00 PM on Monday, with news of Kamal's death circulating by midnight.

Kamal, son of Idu Mia, was a resident of Kruiapara Fakirmura in Cumilla Sadar. He marks the latest victim in a troubling pattern of fatalities involving the BSF; just last month, two teenagers were also shot dead by Indian forces. Bangladesh has formally protested these incidents to the Indian government.
