Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) successfully intercepted a shipment of smuggled Indian goods at the Benapole border in Jashore on Monday.

According to Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddique of the BGB-49 Battalion, the operation was launched late Monday night following intelligence reports indicating that contraband items, including sarees, motor parts, and cosmetics, were being smuggled into Bangladesh via the Benapole border.

The seized goods, valued at approximately Tk 1.05 crore, were promptly handed over to Benapole Customs for further processing.

Lt. Col. Siddique emphasized that smugglers often exploit border areas to bypass taxes, making such regions prime targets for illicit trade. He assured that BGB's anti-smuggling operations would continue to ensure the security and integrity of the border.

In a separate operation, the BGB recently recovered 18 gold bars in Chuadanga, further highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities.
