Bangladeshi Killed in BSF Firing Near Panchagarh Border
A Bangladeshi national was killed early this morning in a firing incident involving the Border Security Force (BSF) near the Bhitargarh border in Panchagarh Sadar upazila, located in northern Bangladesh.
The deceased has been identified as Al Amin, 38, the son of Suruj Ali from Jinnat Para area of Harivasan union, Panchagarh Sadar upazila.
Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoja, commander of the 56th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion in Nilphamari, confirmed the incident to the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) today.
The shooting took place around 50 yards inside India, near Abalupara, located close to Sub Pillar 7 of Border Pillar 744, under the jurisdiction of Bhitargarh Border Outpost (BOP) and BGB’s Nilphamari Battalion (BGB-56).
In response to the incident, Lt Col Badruddoja held a flag meeting with the commander of the 46th BSF Battalion at the border area near pillar 744/7.
“We have strongly condemned this incident and demanded the return of the body,” the BGB commander said, adding that the matter was raised during the flag meeting as part of ongoing efforts to resolve tensions along the border.
This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns over cross-border security and the safety of civilians living in border regions.
