
The deceased was identified as Jamal Uddin, son of Makram Ali of the upazila.
Abdul Awal, officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station, said Jamal went to the betel nut garden along the border in the morning.
Noticing his presence, some Indian Khasia community people opened fire, leaving Jamal injured.
Later, he managed to cross the border with the help of his companions where he died.
A BGB patrol team spotted the body of Jamal at Lobhachhara in Bhelukumar village along the border and informed police who recovered the body early Sunday, reports UNB.
The body was kept at Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital morgue.
