Chief Adviser Prof Yunus
“We must expand our export base, and I urge business leaders to not only focus on products but also invest heavily in the services sector to drive export growth,” Dr. Yunus said during the inauguration of the 29th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2025 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal.
Emphasizing the crucial role of entrepreneurs, Dr. Yunus explained that while developing exportable products is essential, it is equally important to recognize the visionaries behind these products. To highlight their contributions, he proposed the introduction of an "Entrepreneur of the Year" award alongside the annual "Product of the Year" award. This initiative aims to acknowledge and celebrate the entrepreneurs who drive innovation and success in the export sector.
Dr. Yunus further acknowledged the government’s efforts to position Bangladesh’s products in the global market. He pointed to the significant achievements of the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry, which has secured a strong foothold in the international apparel market.
“The export sector plays a vital role in reducing poverty, generating employment, and bolstering the national economy,” he said, emphasizing that it is central to Bangladesh’s growth.
The Chief Adviser formally inaugurated the month-long fair, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
For the first time, the fair introduced online stall and pavilion allocation, as well as an e-ticketing system for attendees. Additionally, to facilitate transportation, the fair offered BRTC’s dedicated bus service along with discounted Uber rides for visitors.
In a nod to the country’s rich history, special spaces named "July Chattar" and "Chhatrish Chattar" were created at the venue to honor the students’ movement for equality. A Youth Pavilion was also established to encourage the younger generation’s participation in export trade.
This year, the fair will feature sector-specific seminars, dedicated sourcing corners, and separate zones for electronics and furniture to support international entrepreneurs. A Technology Corner has been set up to cater to tech-savvy visitors, and a seating area has been provided for senior citizens. A children's park has also been created for family-friendly entertainment.
Held for the fourth consecutive year at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre, the fair has allocated 361 pavilions, stalls, and restaurants for local and international businesses, ensuring a transparent and inclusive participation process.
