Govt to modernize, streamline port management: Sakhawat

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (R.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain today said the government’s goal is to modernize and make port management efficient through practical ideas.


“If the master plan of Payra Port is implemented, it will become one of the economic drivers of the region,” he told a seminar on the master plan of Payra Port held in Kuakata in the district, said an official release.

Payra Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal delivered the welcome speech at the seminar.

He said that work is underway to launch the first terminal of the port by July 2026. For this, he sought the cooperation of the government as well as the preparation and support of all the parties concerned.

Senior officials of various departments, military and maritime organizations, business leaders, port user stakeholders, representatives of the master plan formulation institution, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Royal Dutch University of Technology, Netherlands joined the seminar.

BUET Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed and Tommy Loder of Royal Haskoning DCH presented various aspects of the master plan.

Commodore Mohammad Abdul Kader, Member (Engineering and Development) of the Payra Port Authority presented the future vision and development strategy of the port, reports BSS.
