The price of gold has soared to a historic high in Bangladesh, with Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raising the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 3044 per bhori (11.664 grams) to Tk 178832.

BAJUS announced the new rate in a statement on Wednesday night, saying it will come into effect from Thursday.

According to the notification, the price of acid gold (pure gold) has increased in the local market.

Considering the overall situation, the association has fixed the revised price.

As per the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 170,703 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 146,313, and traditional gold at Tk 121,166 per bhori.

BAJUS also mentioned that the selling price of gold will include 5 percent VAT as fixed by the government and a minimum wage of 6 percent set by it, though making charges may vary depending on design and quality.

Earlier, on September 1, BAJUS last adjusted the prices, hiking the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 1470 to Tk 175788 per bhori, reports UNB.
