The altercation began on Friday night at a tea stall, sparked by a heated argument between students. Tensions had been running high due to ongoing preparations for forming a committee to address the anti-discrimination student movement.
At around 9:30 pm, a disagreement escalated between two groups: one involved in the anti-discrimination movement, and the other from the Computer Science and Engineering Department. The confrontation soon moved to the proctor's office, where the situation quickly turned violent. Eight people, including Proctor Amjad Hossain, were injured in the ensuing clash.
Following the incident, police were immediately called to the scene and managed to restore order, according to Prof. Md Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of JUST. To prevent further unrest, additional police forces have been deployed on campus.
