Sources told NDTV that the actor, who turns 90 on December 8, has been in the hospital for the past four to five days. They added that his admission was primarily for a routine medical check-up.
Earlier in April, Dharmendra underwent an eye graft (corneal transplant) surgery. At the time, a video of him leaving the hospital with a bandaged eye went viral on social media.
In the clip, Dharmendra—dressed in a printed shirt, black trousers, and a black hat—was seen interacting warmly with photographers as he made his way to his car.
Reassuring his fans about his health, the actor said:
“I am strong. Abhi bhi Dharmendra mein bahut dum hai. Abhi bhi jaan rakhta hoon. Meri aankh ka eye graft (corneal transplantation) ho gaya hai. I am strong.”
(“Dharmendra still has a lot of strength and spirit. My eye has undergone a graft, and I’m doing well.”)
In his signature style, he added with a smile, “Love you, my audience and my fans.”
On the work front, Dharmendra was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. His upcoming film, Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, stars Agastya Nanda—grandson of Amitabh Bachchan—along with Jaideep Ahlawat and Simar Bhatia, reports UNB.
Based on the life of war hero Arun Khetarpal, Ikkis is slated for release in December.
