Noshin Anjum emerges unbeaten chess champion

Dhaka, 7 Nov - National women's champion Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Noshin Anjum of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion in the Sylvia Mahjabin Memorial FIDE Rapid Women's Chess tournament held at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room today. 

Noshin scored 6.5 points out of seven games. With the same score, International Woman Master (IWM) Rani Hamid of Bangladesh Ansar became the runner-up.

As both WFM Noshin Anjum and IWM Rani Hamid earned equal points, so their positions were determined based on tie-breaking system.

Meanwhile Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Neelava Choudhury of Bangladesh Ansar finished third place with six points and WCM Israt Jahan Diba became the fourth with 5.5 points.

The fifth to eighth positions went respectively to Jinnat Akter Shahnaz, Jannatul Preety, WCM Walijah Ahmed and WFM Nazrana Khan Eva.

WFM Afroza Khanam and Thakur Janiya Haque ranked ninth and tenth, respectively with five points each, based on the tie-breaking system.

After the competition, special prizes were given to Tabassum Sadia Shahjahan, WCM Omnia Binte Yusuf Lubaba, Shafia Ahmed, Jarin Tasnim, Fairoz Zarifa Syeda and Najmin Akter.

The tournament was held in eight-round Swiss League format with the participation of thirty eight players and a total of Tk 30,000 cash prizes was distributed among the winners.

Grandmaster Niaz Morshed, the first Grandmaster of the Indian subcontinent, attended the prize-giving ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the recipients.BSS
