Arrest
Joypurhat, April 9 – Police detained a 60-year-old man on Wednesday in Khetlal upazila, Joypurhat, following allegations of attempted rape and throwing a class four student off a roof.
The accused, Abdul Kuddus, a resident of Athatar Baman village in the adjacent Khetlal upazila, was working as an agricultural laborer in Binai Madhya Para, according to Khetlal Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Birendra Singh.
Police responded quickly to a call made through the national emergency service, 999, and apprehended Kuddus at the location, said the OC
Locals rescued the victim and took her to the local upazila health complex, where she is currently receiving treatment, he also said
According to locals and police, the victim's parents, who work at a garment factory in Dhaka, had left their daughter in the care of her grandparents in the upazila.
On Wednesday morning, while the child was alone outside, Kuddus allegedly seized her, covered her mouth, and tried to pull her inside. A neighbour witnessed the incident and immediately alerted others. As neighbours attempted to open the door, Kuddus reportedly threw the girl from the second floor of the building.
Upon police arrival and encirclement of the building, Kuddus attempted to escape by jumping off the roof but was apprehended by local residents.
