
President-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has arrived at Bangabhaban to take oath as the country’s new president.
His motorcade entered Bangabhaban at around 7:08pm on Friday (August 21).
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban this evening. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other senior state officials are expected to attend the ceremony.
Invited guests have already begun arriving at Bangabhaban ahead of the ceremony, while security has been tightened in and around the presidential palace.
Officials from the Cabinet Division said more than 1,200 guests have been invited to the ceremony. Acting Speaker of Parliament Kayser Kamal will administer the oath to the newly elected president, while Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani will conduct the ceremony.
According to the invitation issued by the Cabinet Division, the president-elect is scheduled to enter the Durbar Hall at 7:30pm.
The ceremony will begin with the national anthem and recitation from the Quran, followed by the oath-taking administered by the acting speaker.
