The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number 1 as a low-pressure area has formed over the Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay.
In a regular bulletin, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) confirmed the matter on Saturday (October 22).
According to BMD, the low-pressure was centred at this noon about 1025km south of Chattogram port, 940km south of Cox’s Bazar port, 1070km south-southeast of Mongla port and 1005 km south-southeast of Payra port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind of speed within 44 kms of the depression center is about 40kmp rising to 50kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, it added.
