The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which has intensified into a well-marked low that is likely to morph into a cyclone, says the Met office.

If this system intensifies into a cyclone, it will be called Hamoon, a name given by Iran.

The depression, which is about 900 km away, is now moving northwest. However, this path may change a bit Monday.

It is likely to cross Bangladesh’s Khulna, Barisal, and West Bengal coast of India by Thursday as a normal cyclonic storm.

Meteorologist Md. Azizur Rahman said, if it turns into a severe cyclone, it will be called Hamoon. The name is given by Iran. Hamoon means plain land or earth.
