Iran has launched a fresh ballistic missile attack targeting the United Arab Emirates, with one of two missiles falling in the country’s territorial waters and the other landing outside its waters, the UAE Defence Ministry said.

The ministry confirmed the attack in a statement on X on Tuesday.

The attack prompted the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority to issue a warning of a possible missile attack for the first time in several months. The authority said the country’s air-defence systems had detected an incoming missile threat and urged residents to move to safe locations and follow official warnings and updates.

The Interior Ministry also sent emergency alerts to residents’ phones, advising them to take shelter in nearby secure buildings amid the threat.

The latest attack comes days after the UAE said Iran had targeted a vessel operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Friday.

Following the incident, the UAE Foreign Ministry called on Iran to stop what it described as unprovoked attacks, end hostilities and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE last issued a missile warning in May. In June, however, residents received a false missile-alert message because of a technical problem with the country’s national early-warning system.

Since the conflict in the Middle East began on February 28, the UAE has been among the main targets of Iranian missile and drone attacks. Nearly 3,000 missiles and drones have reportedly been launched toward the country, more than against any other country in the region.
